Edition
In August of 2007, ABC’s Extreme Makeover – Home
Edition arrived in Minnesota to begin the 100th house build;
a dream home for the Swenson-Lee family.
TJB Homes invited Deluxe Decorators, Inc to lead the team
of over 50 skilled paint professionals for the project. Deluxe
Decorators coordinated a strategy to include the expertise
of Hirshfield’s and Graco to ensure the project would
be completed with efficiency and professionalism.
The story of the Swenson-Lee family began one tragic September
morning in the West Lakeland home of Teri Lee and her four
children. Lee’s ex-boyfriend broke into the
home and fatally shot Teri and her boyfriend. Awakened
by the intruder, two of the children escaped to a neighbor’s
home, while two children hid in the home. This was
a day that changed their lives forever.
Erik and Vicki Swenson adopted their two nieces and nephews
and quickly became the Swenson-Lee family. This
however, increased the family size from five people to
nine, with a baby on-the-way in early November to make
it a household of ten members.
The family was quickly out-growing their 2,300 SF, 3 bedroom
house. The home was in need of a makeover – and
what better way to renovate a house than to demolish it
and construct a new 5,600 SF house with the help of Ty
Pennington and the Design Team of Extreme Makeover – Home
Edition.
Deluxe Decorators couldn’t have made this dream
a reality if it wasn’t for the generous contributions
of two Minnesota based companies, Hirshfield’s and
Graco.
With outstanding support, Hirshfield’s donated more
than 300 gallons of paint and primer for the interior and
exterior coatings on the home which included more than
60 colors.
In addition, Graco supplied five spray
pumps and many accessories which allowed Deluxe Decorators
to apply the interior and exterior products in a thorough
and efficient manner.
Together, the three companies enthusiastically recruited
volunteers and support from their staff to help demonstrate
their commitment to helping others in the community.
The home was completed in 99.5 hours which was six hours
ahead of schedule. Deluxe Decorators extends their
gratitude to their Project 508 team for their hours of
dedication and excellence to make a difference in the lives
of the Swenson-Lee family.
The 100th E xtreme Makeover – Home Edition house
is tentatively scheduled to air November 25, 2007 as a
two-hour special on ABC.
As Ty would say, “Welcome home Swenson-Lee
family, welcome home.”
